Welcome to GenePedia.ca, the reference site for researchers involved in Canadian Genealogy.

Initially, the site will concentrate on Ontario references, but its scope will not be generally limited, even now.
If we have the contributors, other provincial data will not be made to wait.

The reference data entered will reflect the viewpoint of a genealogy researcher as opposed to simply listing facts about the topic.
For example, a listing about a town on WikiPedia would include population size, political set up, climate, education, etc.
While some of this may possibly be interesting to a researcher, what they really want to know is;
where is the library and when is it open, is there a local historical society, is there a local museum, what are the local newspapers and how can I get lookups,
what and where are the churches, who was involved in the formation of the town and when, who were the leading citizens, what were the defining events in its history,
is the a published history, is it any good, etc.
This is one aspect of the genealogical info the site will provide.

Mainly, it will be a historical reference site. Many times, researchers come across items that are framed in terms of reference of the period. For example, they are told their ancestor went to the government to apply for a land change in 1803. Many would not know the capital moved a number of times, that government was not always in session, etc. This site will be the source for that data.

When this line disappears, the site will be available for the general public.

Until then, only members will be allowed access or be allowed to enter data.
Potential members must have an intent to enter properly researched data to the site before allowed as members.

Until the official opening, non-members will have access to the "Main Page" and the "Contact Us" page. Members will also have access to the "Login" page.
Everyone has access to "Photographers".

We also need people to help manage the site by looking after specific categories such as Counties, Townships, towns, or individual subject material.
